& A BANGIN' BRUNCH.
If you have visited Caleb & Broad, you know the owner, Rich Willis. Everyday, he can be seen working behind the bar, waiting tables, or just extending a helping hand for his staff. Born & raised in Newport, Rich is deeply rooted in the community -- well versed in the restaurant & hospitality business for more than 10 years. The name Caleb & Broad originated from the two streets that intersect in front of the restaurant: Caleb Earl Street & Broadway. “Choices are eclectic and highlight the 'funky and fun' vibe” - Newport Mercury
Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Fritz’s love of cooking came thanks to his mother. This Newport carpetbagger arrived in Rhode Island in 2005 to attend Johnson & Wales University. After Graduation, he worked for Newport Restaurant Group for several years & then he moved to North Carolina for the opportunity to work with a James Beard Nominated Chef.
Soon after his experience working in NC, he moved to Baltimore to be the Executive Chef of a 440 room hotel. In 2013 New England came calling and he returned to Newport to be Chef of The Lobster Bar. More recently, Fritz was Chef de Cuisine of Scarpetta Newport & took the helm of the Banquet Kitchen at Gurney’ Newport.
While Caleb & Broad’s priority is to provide customers with an outstanding dining experience -- we invited 2Hands Studio to design a thoughtful interior environment that is trendy, creative and fun. The restaurant was renovated in January 2020, where an army of locals executed a more modern space and a brilliantly curated collection of local art. Caleb & Broad takes pride in showcasing art that is complex, thought-provoking & engaging. In addition to the gallery, local artist, Ry Smith, painted a 21 foot mural that highlights a motley crew of Rhode Island icons, monuments, movies and more. We highly encourage you to come visit to admire, feast and vibe out.
